Event in 2020
Food is a simple necessity for human life. For most of us, food is an integral part of our daily life. Unfortunately, for some, it is a distant dream. Edhal is an initiative born out of our desire to fulfill the basic needs of our fellow human beings. Our objective is to collect surplus food available and distribute it to the needy. As a representative for the catering owners association, we want to work towards the goal where no one feels the pain of hunger.

An Executive Committee met at Palaniappa Wedding Hall to launch the Bhavani Branch. 23 new members were inducted that day. The key contributors for the formation of the branch in Bhavani are Thiru. Kumar, Thiru. Arul Jyoti, Thiru. MKS Thirunavukarasu, Thiru. MKS Chokappan, and Thiru. S.P. from Erode.

Following the formation of the Erode and Perundurai Branch Associations, an executive committee headed by the District Vice President Thiru. Shankar was convened at Kilampadi.

  • Our Pollachi branch inducted 20 new members.
  • The first Executive Committee meeting was held at Arunachal Mahal, Perundurai. Thiru. Kumar had graciously sponsored the venue for the event. We owe our gratitude to Thiru. Kannan, Thiru. Sabari, Thiru. Kumar and Thiru. Chinna Murugan for making excellent arrangements for this meeting.
  • Our member Thiru. Erode Vivek, Thiru. Yuvraj, Thiru. Ashok, Thiru. Suresh and Thiru. Gokul were also instrumental in the formation of the branch in Perundurai.
  • We distributed food to the needy, from March 30 to April 15 at Asoka Prema Mandapam, Ramnagar, and from April 16 to May 31, at the Hindustan Arts College Campus with the assistance of the Hindustan College Administration. Over the period of 60 days, we were able to help 2,75,000 people.
  • In addition, we also provided blankets, bedding, and hand sanitizers to the 44th Indian Auxiliary Army at Madukkarai.
  • Members of our Erode Branch donated Rs. 50,000 to the Coimbatore Leadership Association for the Edhal food management service.
  • During the lockdown, 3 tonnes of rice were distributed through Erode District Collector in the surrounding areas of Erode. We also provided groceries worth Rs. 1500 – 2500 for distressed families.
  • At the end of May, the Treasurer submitted a report on the financial status in the presence of the members of the association. Everyone concurred.
  • To help out our fellow caterers who were distressed during the lockdown, we provided grocery supplies worth Rs.1,500.

An emergency meeting was convened to discuss about our fight against Covid-19. We pledged to work along with the Corporation of Coimbatore.

The goals for this year were discussed at Subasree Hall, Ramnagar.

Events In 2019

We celebrated a family trip at Kochi Marriott Hotel, Cochin, Kerala, to solidify the relationship between our association members and their family.  Various art performances were held for our members.

The first executive committee meeting was held at the Marina Hotel in Erode. 21 new members were inducted.

The association meeting and cultural events were held at Fairfield Marriott, a five star hotel, for the very first time.

A training session on ‘International Food Recipes’ was held at Hindustan College of Arts and Sciences, Coimbatore. Arrangements were made under the supervision of Dr. Prem Kanna, Head of the Department of Food.

The association raised nearly Three Lakh Rupees and provided medical help to those affected by the Gaja cyclone.

Events In 2018

First anniversary celebration of our association and launch of ‘Edhal’, a drive to collect surplus food and distribute it to the disadvantaged. World Food Day and International Chef’s Day were also commemorated in the presence of 80+ people.

A meeting was held to pay tributes and commemorate the late veteran chef, Thiru. A. Natarajan Iyer. Followed by the proposal for a charity initiative ‘Edhal’, which collects surplus food and distributes it to the needy.

A meeting was held at Patchaimalai Balakumaran Mahal, Gobichettipalayam, to discuss about the proposal for opening a new branch in Gopi. Along with this, further discussions we made regarding the implementation of government objectives, guidance for those without FSSAI certificate and GST, and opening a bank account for the association.

A memorial service headed by Thiru. Sulur Rajendran was conducted to honor the dear mother of Thiru. Murthy, and Thiru. Topaz Mani Iyer, veteran chef, and father of Thiru. Shenbagaraj and Thiru. Damu of Balaji Catering.

A review meeting was held at Gobichettipalayam to start a society. During this meeting, topics related to the draft approval for the registration of the association, collection of subscriptions, expansion of the association, a brief introduction on Gujarat Food Exhibition, future plans for the association, opening of a new branch were discussed.

Our association attended a plastic elimination awareness camp conducted by then Coimbatore Commissioner, Dr. Vijaya Karthikeyan, IAS, on the advice of Thiru. RAAC Ravindran.

Grand launch of ‘Catering Owners Association’, presided by Thiru. M.Krishnan, Sri Krishna Sweets, on Vijayadasami and World Environment Day.
